Basic info

WHAT IT DOES
Airy eliminates traditional nasal cannulas for long-term oxygen therapy (1-2 l/min). Its open-flow interface positions a dosing cup that floats 2 cm away from the nose without facial contact, entirely preventing dermo-epithelial injuries and social stigma.

YOUR INSPIRATION
Airy was born from closely observing the physical and psychological toll of home oxygen therapy: the constant claustrophobia of masks, skin sores caused by PVC friction, and compressor noise that prevented rest. Investigating this issue, we discovered that patients use these systems for over 15 hours a day, and 50% of them suffer facial injuries or abandon treatment out of shame. We decided to apply Dyson’s principles of technological honesty to transform an invasive medical device into a high-fidelity personal accessory that restores freedom, comfort, and identity to the patient.

HOW IT WORKS
Airy operates via a digital synchronous loop that optimizes gas delivery. An optical infrared micro-sensor integrated into the headset detects the exact onset of the inhalation cycle in real time. Upon reading this, the portable concentrator’s firmware opens a solenoid valve to inject a 93% purified oxygen bolus for just 0.44 seconds, matching the first third of inhalation, the only active physiological window where pulmonary alveoli are truly receptive.
The gas travels through an internal micro-conduit to the cup, whose parabolic concave geometry acts as a passive pneumatic shield. This confines the oxygen in a high-density subnasal bubble, deflecting crosswinds and speech-generated turbulence. When the patient inhales, the nose generates a natural suction of 500 ml that draws in the dose without a physical seal. By cutting off gas during exhalation, Airy saves 70% of energy and gas, drastically reducing compressor size for unprecedented portability.
