WHAT IT DOES
Tonalia is a passive climate refuge. Under high UV, it darkens to project dense shade against extreme heat. When transparent, it filters light to create vibrant colored shadows. It mitigates urban heat islands with zero electricity.

YOUR INSPIRATION
The inspiration stems from the urgency to create climate refuges against urban heat islands, while solving a major municipal issue: logistics. Temporary structures require winter storage, generating high costs. We were inspired by a timeless and permanent infrastructure, like a tree. We wanted a skin that reacted autonomously: opaque and protective under extreme summer sun, and in winter, projecting colored shadows to make the city enjoyable. Thus, Tonalia was born—a living structure that is never stored away, but adapts to the seasons, caring for pedestrians all year round.

HOW IT WORKS
Tonalia operates through a 100% passive system, with no sensors or electricity. Its core is an ultra-light hybrid panel of technical polymers, divided into 4 strategic layers:

1. Exterior: High-transmissibility polymer that allows UV rays to pass through.
2. Intelligence: Reactive photochromic film. Its molecules change with the UV index, darkening to block infrared radiation. Without sun, it becomes transparent.
3. Aesthetics: Interchangeable visual filter that projects colored shadows, customizable to match the identity and context of each city.
4.Base: High-density polycarbonate matrix, virtually indestructible against impacts.

This roof rests on a parametric steel structure. Algorithmically designed to prevent buckling, it distributes loads through tubular beams. The entire system is assembled using bolted joints, ensuring a fast and clean installation.
